Class: Lead Safe Work Practices
If you or your employees perform repairs, maintenance, painting, rehabilitation, remodeling or renovation on components painted with lead-based paint in housing build before 1978, that is receiving federal grant money then you and/or your employees must be trained in "Lead-Safe Work Practices". In addition, the EPA is about to post new rules that will require anyone disturbing paint for any reason in pre-1978 housing be required to have lead training and use "Lead-Safe Work Practices".
Upon successful completion of this one-day course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion stating that you are trained in lead-safe work practices and meet the requirements of the HUD Lead-Safe Housing Rule for interim control of lead paint hazards.
This training course presents procedures for minimizing lead dust generation and soil contamination during maintenance/renovation/remodeling activities as defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). If these procedures are correctly implemented, the risk of lead exposure to employees, children, residents and the families of employees can be minimized.
Note: This class is not for EPA Certification of Lead Abatement Workers, but rather enables workers to perform maintenance, renovations, remodeling or rehab work on housing components that may be coated with lead containing paint. EPA Certification is required for companies that are in the business of lead-paint abatement instead of housing rehabilitation or renovation.
Topics taught in the "Lead-Safe Work Practices" course include:
- Health effects of lead
- Lead-based paint hazard control
- Excessive lead exposure during maintenance and renovation work
- Planning lead-based paint maintenance and renovation jobs
- Containment and clean-up of lead hazards
- Lead clearance tests
- Federal and Oregon State regulations
Emphasis is placed on practical means and methods to successfully conduct maintenance and renovation work with lead safety in mind.
Classes can be scheduled at your location.
